 Welcome Wesleyans Worldwide! September 2003
In this issue
Greetings!

From time to time we give special recognition to those we serve. This month we are pleased to honor Wesleyan churches around the world with our lead story on First Wesleyan Church of Tuscaloosa Alabama.

As many of our readers know, we have specialized for over a decade in serving the special needs of churches, with the original ParentFinder wireless nursery paging system being our best known product. We are also a major supplier of wireless 2-way radio systems, offering primarily Motorola products. This month we introduced a new product to extend coverage for larger churches. We will tell you more about the Liberty Repeater and how it is helping Pinelake Baptist Church in Brandon, Mississippi as well as other news we think you will find to be of interest.

New wireless nursery paging system for Tuscaloosa First Wesleyan

When Brenda and Dave Blackburn joined Tuscaloosa First Wesleyan Church in the summer of 2003, they assumed the responsibility for serving the needs of families with young children. With an established and growing church of approximately one thousand members, they had a lot to do.

One of the first priorities was to get an aging wireless parent notification system back to full capability. Over the years, receivers had been lost, some needed repair, and the system was incapable of meeting the expanding needs of the church. Burch Falkner of Falcon Wireless was called in for recommendations.

Burch was able to provide a completely new system for less than it would have cost to add additional pagers to the older system. He arranged a trade in of the old system and then agreed to donate the old system to a smaller church. This proved to be a triple win situation for all concerned. The new system is now installed and working well. For additional information on our newest church nursery paging systems, please click on the link below.

Pinelake Baptist extends communications capability
Scott Albritton at Pinelake Baptist Church in Brandon, MS had a problem. Since establishment in 1971, church membership had grown to more than 4000 members. This necessitated a move from the original facilities on Spillway Road to a new larger location on Lakeland Drive.

Pinelake had been using Motorola commercial grade 2- way radios for quite some time to provide administrative, security, and traffic control use. During the interim period of moving to the new facilities, it was found the radios were incapable of covering both church sites. Burch Falkner of Falcon Wireless was called for a solution.

A new low cost repeater station known as a Liberty repeater was proposed with installation to be made at the new sanctuary. This allowed calls between handheld radios to be repeated to extend the communications range. At the same time, a review was made to determine compliance with new FCC technical requirements for narrow band operation and a plan submitted for migration to the new standards.

As a full line Motorola communications supplier, Falcon Wireless specializes in providing a variety of communications solutions. Additional information on the most popular Motorola commercial communications products is available by clicking on the link below. For more information on the Liberty repeater, give us a call at 205.854.2611.

Internet cameras in the nursery and elsewhere!
As many of our readers know, wireless communications for churches is a major part of our business. An equally important part of our activities involves providing advanced technology for public safety users. One of the concepts that has evolved from our application of technology is known as the Cyclops remote viewing system.

Basically Cyclops involves a partnership between participating commercial and institutional users with law enforcement. Each participant installs a low cost on- premise camera that can be accessed by the Internet or connecting directly with our optional Canopy system. Once connected, the premises can be viewed directly by the law enforcement dispatch center, or even mobile data equipped patrol cars.

Our reason for mentioning this technology is that it can have some practical applications in church nurseries or for security use. We can help you apply Cyclops technology at a fraction of the cost you might expect. For a live on-line demonstration, give us a call at (205) 854-2611. We will give you the camera URL for access to the camera. Once connected to the URL, select English (or other language as desired), then enter the User ID of falcon1 and the password of customer.

You can zoom, pan, or tilt - even turn on the sound in the viewing area. Note: This site is best viewed using a broadband internet connection with a speed of 128K or better. Please log off our site when finished as this demo site only allows viewing by one user at a time. We think you'll get the idea of what kind of potential is available with this system. Broadcast services by telephone!
Question? What does Ray Wooten of United Christian Ministries in Birmingham, Alabama and Gwen Shamblin of Remnant Fellowship of Franklin, Tennessee have in common? The fact is that both have a scattered fellowship, many of whom use a dial in telephone service that allows them to listen in on services.

Dial up service access is a more affordable alternative to TV or radio broadcasting or even the new web casting services. The users dial into a special number, then gather around a speakerphone to listen to the services - kind of like old time radio when the family gathered around the radio.

The problem is that the long distance charges for the scattered listeners in the US can get a little expensive. Outside the US, access is generally out of the question. Then along came voiceglo, the Internet phone company!

Voiceglo users have a choice of two plans. They can pay $12.99 monthly for service connected through their Internet connected PC plus three cents per minute for long distance (about half the average cost paid), or they can pay $32.99 monthly for UNLIMITED long distance. Wireless Network Extensions via Canopy!
Getting connected is a lot easier now, thanks to Canopy by Motorola and Falcon Wireless! Traditionally, we have used leased circuits (T1 lines, fiber, or RT loops) to connect devices and PC's that were off the main premises. Sometimes we can get by with stringing wires between buildings (either in the air or underground) although such circuits are very vulnerable.

Clearly, wireless connectivity is the better alternative since there are no monthly recurring costs and the system is secure from line breakage and maintenances. In the past, such systems were either very expensive, or limited in range and capability. The new Canopy system now makes it possible to connect PC's in a remote building across the campus or across town at surprisingly low cost.

The applications are limitless. When Samford University needed connection between the athletic field and a remote feed to their PC Ethernet, the most obvious choice was Canopy. With an installed cost of less than twenty five hundred dollars, nothing else even came close. If you would like to know more about Canopy, click on the link below or give us a call at 205.854.2611. We've got good connections!

Communications savings for small churches!
By our definition, a small church is one with 100 members or less. Unfortunately, a small church has many of the same needs as a larger church without the financial resources generated by a large membership. We can't solve all the problems, but we can offer a few ideas relating to communications.

The typical small church has a single phone line at a cost of around sixty dollars per month, a fax machine that shares the phone line, and maybe a dial up Internet connection at twenty-five dollars per month, and no web page. Some have answering machines. Rarely do they have call forwarding or voice mail. Let's look at an alternative!

Let's consider broadband Internet access such Bellsouth DSL or Roadrunner Cable access. The typical cost is around $50 per month. That gives us a FREE web page, better email, and high speed Internet access. Next we replace our office phone with a voiceglo phone at a cost of $19.99 per month that INCLUDES call forwarding, Caller ID, and Voice Mail. Next we add a voiceglo dedicated fax line at $9.99 per month for a total cost of less than $80 per month.

For about the same amount of money that we are now spending, we have communications capabilities second to none. Want to know more? Click on the link below or give us a call at 205.854.2611. You'll be glad you did!

Wouldn't you rather have a Motorola?
Several years ago, Motorola got out of the consumer paging business due to trends favoring lower priced throwaway products. Rather than degrading the Motorola reputation for quality, performance, and long life; the decision was made to withdraw from the market.

As it turns out, many customers didn't want cheap pagers. They wanted GOOD pagers! As a result, we are delighted to announce that Motorola is again offering top quality paging products at reasonable cost.

The LS355 is a numeric display pager, well suited for use with most of our previous paging systems, our current systems, and many competitive systems. The LS355 does not have all the bells and whistles. However, it you need a pager that works reliably at reasonable cost, this would be a good choice for replacement or add-on use.

The price is $99 in any quantity. This is not the lowest price for a numeric display pager, but certainly not the highest price! For a limited time, we are offering a $30 trade-in on any working pager, regardless of brand.
