  • Greetings!

June has been a very busy month for us. At the Sprint Business Developers Conference in Dallas, we were given the opportunity to meet the Sprint top management team. We learned more about the exciting Sprint vision and how it will effect those we serve. The more you know, the more you are going to like Sprint!

We attended three fire conferences in June starting with the Fire Chief's meeting in Point Clear, Alabama followed by the Brindlee Mt. Firefighters appreciation day (A truly great meeting for all who attended), and finishing the end of the month at the Alabama Assn. of Volunteer Fire Depts. in Ft. Payne - Another great meeting. We've had a great month - hope you have had the same! Now, we would like to share a few ideas that may be of interest.

    Law Enforcment Drug Interdiction Program

What do the the cities of Bonifay, Florida, Riverside, Alabama, and Villia Rica Georgia have in common? Well, for starters they are all on Interstate Highways and have active and successful drug interdiction programs. What does this mean to our law enforcment users? Actually, quite a lot!

David Mason works with us in assisting interested agencies in getting the essentials for setting up the basics of a successful program. David has spent a lot of time in reviewing the techniques of some of the most successful departments in the USA and he is willing to share his knowledge with those who are interested.

We have prepared an overview of the elements of establishing a successful program. Additional information is available by clicking on the link below, Check it out - we think you'll be glad you did! Better yet, give David a call at 1-800-489-2611 and request a copy of his full report. It is VERY interesting!

Trussville FD first with triple redundancy system
Until just recently, the Trussville Fire Department was one of the few remaining low band users remaining in Alabama. Then, along came the great flood of 03 that wiped out almost the whole system. It was decided that it would be better to upgrade to VHF than to try to revitalize the old low band system. Falcon Wireless was the successful bidder with the award made on several unique conditions.

The entire system including a repeater station, three control stations with antenna systems, mobiles, handhelds, and pagers had to be delivered within 15 working days and completely installed within a 15-day period. This was no small requirement since custom tuned duplexers and special monopole antenna supports had to be built for compliance with local zoning ordinances.

Recognizing the potential for failure by losing the main repeater station, Falcon Wireless provided a special version of the Motorola GR1225 repeater at every control station location equipped with heavy-duty external power supplies and back up DC batteries.

This new system allows the Trussville Fire Department to use any on of three control stations to replace the main repeater or to switch over to the duplex mode at their primary location. Another flood may come, but this time, the Trussville Fire Department will be ready with TRIPLE redundancy! The new Motorola CP200 handheld radio was chosen for it's capability to function both as a radio and as a pager, plus the ability to identify each user using the Motorola MDC1200 unit ID system. Clarification on FCC Rule changes
FCC Rules are changing! In the Birmingham area, a local sales representative has been circulating information that would lead existing 2-way users to believe that recent FCC changes have made their existing equipment obsolete. This is absolutely UNTRUE!

If you would like the straight facts on the narrow band rule changes (12.5 KHz versus 25 KHz), we invite you to visit www.firepagers.com and click on the COMMENTARY section at the bottom left hand task bar.

There are many reasons why it may be to your advantage to move up to new equipment, but fear of non-compliance with FCC regulations is not one of them. For more information, call us!

New services help commercial 2-way radio users
What do Ethan Allen Furniture, Trane Corporation, and Bright House Network (formerly Time-Warner Communications) have in common? The answer is that all are Falcon Wireless customers. They may be scattered from Florida to Vermont, but they all recognize the value of a "Can Do" supplier.

When Ethan Allen and Trane Corporation wanted the best product for the least money and the best service, they came to Falcon Wireless. By the way, the product they chose was the new Motorola CP200, the radio that is setting new standards for affordability, performance, and reliability.

Bright House Network has a little different requirement. Their local repeater had been damaged by lightning with an estimate of two thousand dollars as a repair cost and no promise of when it would be repaired by their then current supplier. Bright House called Falcon, and they are glad they did!

Falcon Wireless provided a complete replacement in less than a week and covered the new repeater with our unique Next Day Exchange program with an annual fee of less than what they had been paying for a single repair. Maybe this is why YOU should call on us when you need help in a hurry! We are as close as your phone. Call us anytime at 1-800-489-2611.

    Sprint PTT Coming Soon!
On Friday, June 20, 2003, the FCC approved the Sanyo 7200 for use on the nationwide Sprint PCS network! Unlike Nextel, the Sprint system provides coverage both in metro areas and on major highways as well as in rural areas!

For additional information on Sprint special rate plans for public safety users, give us a call or check our web page at www.alaprotect.com.

    New battery replacement service
Batteries fail for a number of reasons. The primary reason being OVERCHARGING! There are two types of overcharging. The most common is charging too frequently. Batteries are designed to accept a given number of charge cycles. Everyday charging, particularly in the case of cell phones is often not required. The second overcharging problem is leaving the radio, pager, or phone on constant charge.

Many people do not know that a Ni-Cd battery actually has more charging cycles than the newer Lithium-Ion. While it is true that the Li-Ion battery has more capacity and lighter weight, it is equally true that daily charging of a Li-Ion battery can result in replacement annually or sometimes less. A Ni-Cd under normal service has a life of 18-24 months. All Motorola batteries are date coded with month manufactured. A code of 0011 would indicate a manufactured date of November 2000.

We are now offering a free reminder service to let you know when you should consider replacing your battery. Just email your battery type and date code to candicesutterlin@bellsouth.net.

We will let you know when replacement is recommended. This is a FREE service! If a battery fails, send it to us. If it is in warranty, we will replace it FREE. If it is out of warranty, we will either (a) condition if possible at a cost of $10 or take care of disposal FREE. This is a win-win situation for you, those whose lives depend on working equipment and the environment. Call Candice Sutterlin at 1-800-489- 2611 for additional information.
